I am hoping you can help me. I have a Compaq PII 266 with a 4gb hard disk that has recently been causing me problems. It seems that whenever I power up, it will boot up as usual and then work fine for a while. Then the HD starts to make what I can only describe as a 'clunk' noise, and then stops. Then, it'll start up again, make another clunk sound and stop. Eventually, it stops altogether and locks up so that I have to power down instead of rebooting.
Has my Hard Disk gone bad?
Thank you in advance for your help

Welcome! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Wish I could offer some hope, but unfortunately whenever a hard drive starts making unusual sounds (clicks, clunks, grating noises, etc.) and locks up, it usually means it's about to die. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif I'd recommend backing up any data you don't want to lose and buying a new hard drive as soon as possible.
