Hi,
I've just fitted a Iomega SCSI card into my Athlon PC and I've discovered that Deus Ex now freezes while trying to load.

It never did this before the card was fitted so I think there's a conflict somewhere but I have no idea where to look or how to get there.

Can anyone suggest how to solve, what I think is, my IRQ problem?

I'm not well-versed in SCSI cards, but you could try looking in Control Panel, System, Device Manager to see if you have any hardware conflicts showing up there. If you see any yellow exclamation points or red Xs on any of your devices, let us know and we'll try to help you figure out how to fix them.

It sounds like Deus Ex was running OK before you installed the SCSI card. If you have no conflicts in Device Manager, you could try uninstalling the game, restarting your computer and then reinstalling it? Also, go to this page and type "locks up" in the search box there for more possible help: http://www.help.com/cat/6/338/848/index.html?tag=st.hp.cat.ont

Hi Kim,

Thanks for that link, very interesting.

Is it possible to save my position in the game and then go on to re installing the game? I don't really want to lose several levels of play if I can avoid it.

Regards,

Look at the Deus Ex Support FAQ (http://www.eidosinteractive.com/support/faqinfo.html?fqid=59&gmid=50) and read the part about saving your game. I don't know what the game menu looks like, but if it allows you to name your saved game, name it something specific like "save before uninstall" and then exit the game. Go to Windows Explorer and find the directory where the Deus Ex files are installed. See if you can figure out which of the files is your game you just saved. Hopefully it will be named "save before uninstall" or maybe something like ####.sg. If you find it, copy it somewhere else on your hard drive before you uninstall and reinstall the game. Sometimes saved games are left behind during an uninstall, but a backup would be nice in case they aren't. Once you reinstall, if your saved game isn't there, copy that saved file back into the same place it was before. I can't guarantee this will work, but it's worth a try.

Read all the FAQs at the bottom of the website - maybe you can find an answer to your lockup problem without having to reinstall the game.

Hope this helps! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
