which I understand is a page fault but cannot find any references to page faults. Also.... what is the registry? Perhaps insufficient mem there too. I have been going in circles (dizzy) for some time. Reloaded windows etc.etc but still same old scene... Can anyone help?

FIRST OFF DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER INFORMATION ON YOUR COMPUTER HARDWARE AMOUNT AND STYLE OF MEMORY PROCESSOR TYPE M/B TYPE HOW MANY DRIVES AND WHAT KIND ANY ADDITIONAL CARDS INSTALLED YOU SAID YOU REINSTALLED WINDOWS SEVERAL TIMES WAS THERE ANY SCRATCHES ON THE CD ECT... DID IT EVER WORK WHAT WHERE YOU DOING WHEN IT STARTED. THIS INFO IS VERY HELPFUL IN FINDING OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THESE THINGS

COOPER111 The caps lock key is on the left, just above [Shift]. All caps is not easy to read, and generally considered yelling...
FionaG That's a Fatal Exception Error, if it's a page fault it will say so. Q150314 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q150/3/14.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0) has some info about them, could be difficult to troubleshoot though, they are not easy to pin down...but we'll try.
Insufficient memory...If you're running win 98 and have at least 32MB, and at least 100MB free hard drive space for a swap file you should have enough memory for windows to run. 64MB is much better, but I can verify that 32MB WILL run, that's what I'm running right now.
You might run scandisk and defrag a couple times, it might help by putting everything in one place, making it easier for the drive's head to find data.
The Registry consists of two files system.dat and user.dat that contain information that tells windows where everything is and what default or user configured parameters to use, plus lots of other info I couldn't begin to describe. It is loaded at start up and windows can't run without it. Understanding the Registry (http://www.itp-journals.com/search/e1209.htm) has a very good article about it, and requires Adobe Acrobat.

Well, I see there are 3 replies but cannot see them. (??) I can ready everyone else's responses but not the ones I am particularly interested in at this stage (ie) MINE!! (Murphy visiting me once again..) However, trooping right along.... I reformatted my HDD, then loaded Win98 (was previously Win95) but liked the idea of scanreg /fix. However, after that kafuffle, everything looking great, drums rolling etc.etc instal complete then kaboom! Fatal exception 0E 0028:C0044865 in VxD VCACHE(01). Hit return and Fatal exception OD FFFF:FFFFFFFF. Any clues? (In pathetic tones) "help....."

This link (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q276/3/93.ASP) will take you to a MS page that shows links to all sorts of invalid page fault error messages. I think one concerning vcache is in there...If not, run a search in the MSKB for Invalid Page Faults. They have a link to a search page, but I can't get it to post as a link. Here it is:
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/psssearch.asp?FR=0&DU=C&SPR=&LPR=&D=support&LQ=kbieipf&VA=&T=B&KT=BOOLEAN&T1=&S=F&A=T&sh=0&SG=&PSL=&LNG=ENG&VR=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport%2Emicroso ft%2Ecom%2Fsupport&CAT=Support&VRL=ENG&CND=1&SA=GN&H=Articles+that+Discuss+Invalid+Page+Faults
Maybe you can copy & paste it if it doesn't show as a link. Lots of goo dinfo...

OK, update to previous post. I needed to add a few things anyway, so I just updated my webpage again, the one posted in my signature. I put both links posted above in the MSKD section, and both do show up as links this time...And both work, I just checked.
I tried twice and couldn't get the search page to show up as a link, it places a space in one word each time I post, so I gave up.
Anyway, I wanted those links in my page so there they are. Also added about a half dozen other links.
