Trying to load Win 98 on new HD. Fdisk and Formatted hd - loaded CDrom drivers. During computer startup cmos detects CDrom and I get the prompt though when I attempt access Windows Setup on the CDrom I get a message "Not ready reading Drive D." The disk is the CDrom. Tried to access various disks with the same result. Please advise. Thank you in advance for an suggestions you may offer.

Are you booting with the Win98 startup floppy disk? If so, your CDROM drive will be E:, because the startup floppy installs a virtual (temporary) ramdrive containing diagnostic tools on drive D:. After installing Win98, your CDROM will go back to being D: and the ramdrive will be gone.
If you are NOT booting with the startup floppy, try doing that and choose "Start Computer with CDROM Support". At the A:\> prompt, type E: [Enter] and it should find your Win98 CD, then you can proceed with the install.
Hope this helps! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
