hard drive head stuck to platter

Hi, I was wondering if someone could help with this problem. I have an IBM Ultrastar 18G SCSI hard drive. When it boots up, it makes some noise and then fails to respond. I went to IBM's support page and found a list of hard drive noises. So, I was wondering if this drive is still salvagable and what would be the best to way unstick the head from the platter. Thanks.

I had exactly the same problem a few months back where one or more platter had either warped or the arm which reads the data had jammed. I was reliably told by a local firm that the hd was beyond help but it could be sent to a specialist firm for dismantling and copying the data from the disc - in the region of £300 ($480). I didn't have such critical data on the hd so threw it out and replaced it with a 20gb for £90 ($144).
