View Full Version : How do you Unpartition a disk?
Help. I have been given a 2nd hand PC that apperas to have a partitioned hard drive (it shows drive: X in the Explorer). Is there any easy way of getting rid of this. I suspect it was used on a LAN and then thrown away.

First thing I would try would be open My Computer, from the desktop, and right click the drive, then click Properties Click the Sharing tab, and reset it so the drive is not shared. I don't have any shared drives or folders, so I can't see what options are available, maybe someone with a bit of networking savvy can help out more.
If that doesn't give you the option to reset the drive letter about the only way I know would be to fdisk, which would also mean format and reinstall, which I would not recommend unless absolutely necessary.

If this is not your hard drive, but another, then it is a drive that was mapped to the computer at bootup and is safe to delete. Just right click and choose delete. Hope this helps.
