I have a home pc with 40 GB harddisc with dual booting for windows 98 and windows NT 4.0.I wanted to reinstall NT and hence i removed NT.But after that could not see the 40 GB capacity while doing FDISC.I tried with EZ install as mine is Western digital hard disc. Now i have only 38 GB listed while doing any partitioning methods.I do not see any non dos partition also.I am unable to load both Windows 98 and NT now as it says that partition is damaged or unformatted when trying to load NT.
I welcome your kind suggestions to solve my problem
Thank you,

I had a similar experience, when my Linux crashed. My disk was reduced from
6.4G to .5G ... It went away when I reinstalled Dos, using the entire disk (I had removed all logical drives &partitions before reinstalling).
It might work for you too, but it does have certain drawbacks http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif...
This Debug Script (http://www.firmware.com/support/bios/hdclear.htm) can clear the boot sector when other methods fail, then try partitioning again. Do not use it if there is anything on the drive that you are trying to save. Run it from a bootup floppy that has debug on it.

The 40 GB vs 38 GB thing is just binary vs decimal GB. See here (http://www.PCGuide.com/intro/fun/bindec.htm) for an explanation.
