During boot up, a line comes up "Cannot write ESCD" and a beep is heard. But the boot process continues Ok after this. What does this mean and how to avoid it. I have been having strange problems with printer i think since this message has been coming up.

I believe the ESCD is part of a resource management system. I'm thinking maybe it's a kind of table containing IRQ numbers and/or other PNP parameters. My system seems to do an ESCD update after booting after certain change(S) are made in CMOS setup. I also have a "Force update ESCD" option.

You might have two or more things assigned to the same IRQ or port addr or mem addr, maybe this could cause the update process to fail. Check for anything assigned to IRQ 7 especially, since this is typically what the printer port uses.
