Post CD-ROM won't load some games on computer

I have a HP 8750c and a friend has a HP 9694c, both are running windowsSE, both have 128MB of ram and are both over 600 on processor. About half the games I buy stall out while trying to install, the computer also says that the games are running, either way they don't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    welcome!

Did you make sure nothing (including antivirus or firewall) was running when you installed them? When you say "half the games stall out during install", is there a something in common with the games that fail as compared to the ones that work (i.e. are some those Windows compilation CD's, some old DOS, etc.)

As much as I am sure the game developers have troubleshooting FAQ's on their websites, it does seem strange that both you and your friend are having the same trouble.

Another avenue to explore - are you certain that your PC meets the the game requirements? Putting aside processor speed and RAM, HP's are know to use SMA which allocates system RAM for video instead of a dedicated graphics card.

Consider these suggestions and then post more specifcs about your computer and what the error messages are.

I'd also check for driver updates (from HP, if you haven't replaced the video card) for the video card and/or DirectX updates from MS.

The games are all designed to run on windows 98 the computer easily has all the requirements to run them. I have two years of computer training, but this one baffles me. The computer I normally use is an older HP 6470Z, 400 processor and 192MB of ram, this one runs all the same games fine, I have window98 on it.
