red goes black on monitor & some flicker

Frequently and for extended periods, usually just after some flicker, the red goes out on my monitor. Images that were red are now black. Though blue and yellow still appear. For example: on minesweeper, the 'mines remaining' and the 'time elapsed' windows are black on black. In solitaire, hearts & diamonds are as black as spades & clubs. This monitor reacts the same when plugged into my new computer, so I sadly feel the problem is with the monitor itself. This monitor is 6 years old. I would like to repair the monitor, if possible & cost effective. --thanks for your input!

If you are not professionally trained to work on a monitor, you will need two things: The grace of God, and a lot of insurance for your family. A monitor can be off for days and still have enough power stored to kill you! Take it to a professional. A lot of computer techs are not trained to work on monitors. Just my own advice......

Having worked in this sector of I've seen accidental electrocution. Person survived however suffered some nerve damage, some people might considered him lucky, depends how you want to look at it. There is special equipment and proceedures that must be followed to the letter to reduce the risks. Equipment aside, the procedures cannot be fully explained on a bulletin board such as this one. My policy is I can't advise anyone but a trained tech to attempt a repair of a monitor as it is just to dangerous.

I strongly agree with both of the above posts. Replacing it is more expensive than repair might be, but LOTS safer...Go shopping!
