Hey all,
I've got a interesting problem. My dad gave me a hp 5200c scanjet scanner about a year ago. The scanner, no matter what you do, takes 5 minutes to start a scan. Once it starts it does an excellent job, and then you scan the next document and you are back to the 5 minute wait again!
I've had this scanner installed on several systems, and all respond the same. You push the scan button, HP's software starts, the scanner icon shows paralell port busy, maybe a couple of movements from the lamp, and then 5 minutes later it scans the image.
This scanner was shipped back to HP while it was still under warranty, and they gave it a clean bill of health. Told us to reinstall software, and make sure we had good bi-directional cables, which of course we did long before contacting them.
I've tried everything I could think of, including setting the lamp for always on, to see if it was a problem with the lamp warm up time. To installing it with the usb connection on other machines (usb on my system not working, a problem for another day) to see if it was the paralell drivers giving us fits.
Anybody have any suggestions? I'm pretty sure it's in the scanner itself, and probably unrepairable. Hey at least it works, and it was free after all, but just thought I'd see if any of you have ever run into something like this before.
