Question Error message: not enough free usb ports

Under Win98, why might I get an error that there are not enough free usb ports even though there are? Specifically, a usb cd-burner stopped working when a new ps/2/usb mouse was plugged in, even if it was plugged into the ps/2 port via an adapter.
    Thanks for any tips.

    Hi tbalazs....

Ease over to your Mboard Mfg's website and check for a USB patch that can be downloaded.

M$oft also has USB patches available at thier site.

    Luck.

Wish I could find the site...I think it was Microsoft?

There's only so much power available for USB peripherals. Is it possible that you've "maxed" out? Man, I hate getting old! I think what it said was that a CD-RW or a Scanner nearly maxed the available USB power resources.

Perhaps other's can refresh my memory. Actually I'm not forgetting things...I'm editing!

Ok, I at least found a troubleshooting guide that gives some electrical limitations it's HERE

Also you might want to look into a powered port expander...it has its own power supply so it will help over come some power limitations.
