Modem Help

Hey I just installed a new 56kflex PCI modem into my computer and it wouldnt let my comp power up. So I took all my other PCI cards ( a network card and an older modem) and try it again. It still doesnt let my comp power up. Then I took out the modem and put in my other PCI cards and turned on the comp. It works fine but i noticed that while booting up it showed 2 messages...one was "ESCD...updated...success" and the other "DMI Pool Data....updated...success" or something like that. After loading my operating system (Winxp pro) I shut down...put back in the modem...and surprisingly I was able to boot my comp. However the problem is that once I turn off my comp Im wasn't able to boot it up again without taking out the new modem, boot the comp without it, turn off comp, then put the new modem back in...I really dont want to go through all this hassle just for a modem...Can you Experts help me out please?

btw the modem is a v.90/K56flex ACEEX and it is in port 4

Hello Sang2k and welcome.
That is odd. You say you removed the old modem, have you removed the drivers for it as well? With both modems out, boot into SafeMode and remove everything modem in device manager, restart, shut down, install new modem and try bootup.

When you say it won't power up. Do you mean "Boot up" or literaly "no power?"

The power doesnt turn on at all. The card is not loose or anything either...could this have anything to do with my BIOS???

1. It is not clear if you have done what bassman suggested? At the expense of being boring i.e. Have you (a) physically removed all modems and (b) removed all references to modems in Device Manager (when in Safe Mode) (c) restarted (d) closed down (e) physically installed new modem and (f) rebooted.

2. If after this the pc wont "start" again try reseating the card in another slot and try rebooting again.

3. I maybe wrong on this but it sounds like some sort of conflict (IRQ or Com Port) between running the two modems simultaneously or else a seating/grounding problem of the card itself. Are they both soft pci modems?
