monitor setting in Red Hat 7.0

I am totally a newbbie to Linux. But I have heard a lot of good things about it. So I gave it a try. It is a nice learning experience. But I have yet to figure out how to set the refresh rate of the monitor. My eyes can not take it any more. In addition, any suggestion on how to migrate the Linux box to Windows server-based network? I heard about Samba. Any other one?

Open a terminal window and run "xf86config" you'll need to login as root to run the program. It will lead you thur configuring the X system including the "sync" rate of the monitor.

You could also use telnet and FTP to access a Linux system. ( after all it is Unix based.)

I ran the command and followed the steps. But after I restart the computer, I could not log onto X Window. I was told there was some configuration error. I ran the xf86config again and used the most basic configuration and it still did not work. What should I do?

Run "Xconfigurator" which can "probe" for most of your settings for you.
It also will present you with a list of monitors to choose from and some standard resolutions/refresh rates. ( it also accepts custome options, but I would stick with the standards unless your postive about your settings.) When done it will test your Xwindows system.

Oh and don't forget to login as root to run the program.
