Check for conflicts in Device Manager, the USB card probably took the IRQ the sound card was using.
Just a guess, but I would think you could try removing the USB card from Device Manager in Safe Mode, reboot and see if you get better results. If not, do the same, but shut down and move the card to a different slot. Then reboot and let Windows find it.
