Research on teh basic function and origins of the Personal PC

Computers have always interested me I have assembled several for family and friends myself. I am a Computer Science major and Suny Buffalo. However im interested in the basic lowest level of the purpose of computer hardware and how they work to produce the music, games, wordprocessing etc. I have searched the internet looking for research and found a wealth of information on the basic electrical functions of several key computer devices. However, none of the articles i have read can answer some of my questions that to this day boggle my mind. SO im writing to this forum so a bright intelligent Comp technician can probably answer my question. My question is :

I basically understand that all hardware consists of intergrated circuits with transitors (which basic function is to act as a gateway for direct current of electricity) soldered on to PCB. Each transitor represnts a 1 or 0? However during the creation of the first primitive computers where all hardware acted as a gate for electricity to power its own motors how did people create programs that interact with the electricity? I dont know if my question is phrased wrong? But every website or article i have read on this topic talks about a electrical signals representing 1's or 0's. My question is how do those electrical signals convert into the bios info when you start your computer. ???? And how was the first original Bios Rom chip every programmed? And all computer hardware programmed and if how??? please can some attempt to answer some of my questions if intersted in emailing me email me at Suprchris@excite.com

    Good place to start

http://www.pcguide.com/intro/index-c.html Charles does an outstanding job of explaining this in the Topic Index(With No Frames. You can find it on the main page of the PC Guide. Better yet you can buy his disc.
One day I will be a pro, Thanks Andy
