Are you adjusting them in the Display Properties?..Advanced settings?..or from the monitor itself?

    How old is the monitor?

They get darker over time, though if all the colors are just off, try using the DeGauss button if your monitor has one.

Rightclick on a blank area of ya desktop..choose Properties..then go to the settings tab..then click the Advanced button. Within there you should find settings for gamma ..which helps alot with darkness. If theres no settings like this then you are using the Windows standard drivers for your video and you need to go to the manufactures site and grab updated drivers.
