This problem really has me stumped. I have a five node, peer to peer w98se,10/100, star topo network with netbeui protocol. Open sharing on all with all print aand file sharing open. They are all P2, 128 megs sdram. The data file is located on the book keepers machine. This is the latest version of quickbooks with all updates installed. The data file is 58 mb in size.
For a long time the drive on the book keepers was not mapped and though it took a few minutes all the clients could open and use qb. The front desk though took up to one half hour to load and be able to use the program. Finally the front desk machine can no longer open the file across the network even left to try over night. It just keeps "searching" and "working" forever.
Tech support said to map the drive which I did but the front computer doesn't show it as such in windows explorer yet when you logon it says it is connecting to the mapped drive on the book keepers!??
I can not help but think that the lack of seeing the drive in explorer might be related to the problem.
Front desk can open a word document just fine but not qb.
I can open the very small sample company file across the lan but even it takes 15 minutes for a 2 mb file! I have shutdown all background programs (NAV etc.) and still nogo.
I used a process veiwer and see no resource hog activity.
I am about ready to get really POed here
Did I leave anything out?
Thanks in advance for any help.
