Did you try using the 'Add Printer' wizard in Printers?
Help-In my tired state I inadvertantly deleted my epson printer from my system by going to printers and deleted it. Now when I go to Control Panel add/remove it still shows there but now I can't remove it from the list. I also cannot get it to reinstall, what is the best way to get it reinstalled?
Did you try using the 'Add Printer' wizard in Printers?
Yes and that did not work either.
Did you try add new hardware in control panel?
Yes I have also tried add new hardware, I have tried all I can think of and nothing seems to be working. It won't even accept the manufacturers disk when trying to reinstal.
You say that Add New Printer "did not work". What exactly are the error messages or result when you use it?
When I try to add printer through add hardware it takes me through to the point where I choose the company (Epson) and then the printer (Color Stylus 440) then it tells me that it can not find the device and that if the problem persists call the system admin.
The mistake I made was, I inadvertantly deleted the printer in settings, printers, and it still shows up in add/remove software list but it's not there and when I select it to delete it tells me that I can't delete the program or its utilities.
I have pretty much tried all I can think of and nothing seems to be working, so I am stuck at this point.
Go to Start/Programs, point to your printer(if it's there), and look for an uninstall item. If one exists, then see if it works.
If it uninstalls the printer, then use your printer's software CD to reinstall the printer.
If it does not uninstall the printer or it does not exist, then you may be able to restore the Registry with a copy that predated the accidental removal of the printer(Windows automatically saves a copy of the Registry at the 1st start on each date, and saves a total of 4 or 5 copies. If you removed the printer on 10/11, then a copy of that date's Registry may still be in your system, and if it's there then it should still have your printer installed). To restore the Registry, restart the computer, press and hold down the Ctrl key, select 'Command Prompt' from the menu with the arrow keys, press Enter, at the C:\> prompt type scanreg /restore, press Enter, select the Registry with the 10/11 date(if it's not there, then just exit the page), press Enter.
If neither of the above worked, then you may have to edit the Registry.
Thank you everyone for the response on my problem. I finally tried going to Start>settings>printer>properties and put the disk in went to the printer folder>drivers and reinstalled that way and it worked. Whew!
Again thanks everyone you were all great.
I am having the same problem.
I have a Stylus Color 440 and a C44UX.
I tried everything described here but they still don't work. The system won't accept the CD, it says it cannot install the drivers. I upgraded the drivers from the website, the 440 is the default.
The 440 wouldn't print at all, then I contacted Epson and followed the instructions the tech sent me. I got the 440 to print, BUT it did so in Computerese! Now it just clunks rapidly when the carriage goes to either end.
The C44UX does the same thing, only it chatters.
Neither one will print.
