    Thinkin about upgrading

    Heylo.

Well, seeing as my compaq's dead and a new compaq mobo costs 300 bucks here... I decided to go around computer stores.

Im planning on buying a new mobo and using the old PCs components (HDs, CD-Rs, Floppy Drive, Video card, etc etc).

so this is what I found!

An ATX towers with a 925 mobo with a Pentium IV 1.7Mhz. They..just gave me 925 as the name of the Mobo so i-m not sure which it is, but it has a 32 meg video card, a 32 bit sound card, network card and modem in it. It'll come with 256 PC-133 RAM. (I have 320 PC100 RAM, but that tell me it won-t work with the mobo). All of this for the same 300 bucks.

Not sure which mobo compaq will try to give me, or with what processor. The computer-s a family computer, used for games, office, internet (via cable modem), and some design programs, (say photoshop, illustrator, flash, etc).

    Sounds like a good idea?

I have a Maxtor 20 gig HD and a Compaq 8gig one. an Xtasis Geforce 2 video card, a HP CD-RW and a Compaq CD-R. Not sure about the current network card or modem, but i won-t need them if I get this mobo.. Compaq monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Will they work on the new system I wanna make?

...Now I go back to class. ;P Thanks for any info!

Well, probably... I would ask more detail about the motherboard on the system you are looking at, that will determine what will work or not. If you are buying off of the web, I would also urge checking the ratings on the company at:

    http://www.resellerratings.com/

Keep in mind too that a lot of resellers on the web will custom configure your computer as you want it, so you can select all the parts and they put it together and ship it to you.

    Good luck,
    Budfred
