    Backing up files when upgrade

I decided to upgrade my pc. The problem is I don't have a Zip or CDRW to backup my files on the pc. Can I use the current hard disk and put it into the new system then transfer the files to my new computer, then only copy the files to the new hard disk? You see, I am using Windows 98 right now and I am going to upgrade it with windows XP. Will it be conflicted with the older hard disk? How does the Master/Slave work?

    I'm a newbie here.
    Thanks in advance....

If you're going to install the OS on that same drive I wouldn't recommend it. If you're installing XP onto a new hard drive then you should be fine. Just set the old drive to slave and the new to master. It would be best also to leave the old drive out until the system is otherwise stable.

Of course you could pick up a mid priced cd burner for about US $65., very convenient to have.
Ask me no questions I'll tell you no lies
