    Choppy Video and sound

Working on a system for a friend here today.
Found a couple of Problems that plague this thing.

    Choppy Video and sound
Both occur during Video ( DVD) playback and Game ( Nascar 200? )

The system is a new build
    Asus P4Pe Black Pearl
P4-2.6 ( Not sure of exact speed at the moment But it is at least 2.6)
    1024 ram
ATI all in wonder 8500 - 64 meg
    SB Live
    16x dvd-rom and Plextor dvd-rw
    30 and 60 gig (wd maxtor) Hdd’s

I stripped the process list down to 17 running ( WinXP Home ) and still got the chop
    All drives are DMA enabled
Everything on the MB is enabled except for the onboard sound

This is supposed to be a Hyper threading mb/cpu combo

    Any Ideas ?

Sounds more like it should be a nVidia/VIA chipset problem than an ATI/Intel one. Although it could still be a SB problem.

Have you tried killing everything related to the SB and/or a different driver set for it?

Creative has taken to adding a whole bunch of junk running besides the drivers.

Pull the sb and enable the onboard sound and see what happens.

I returned the system this afternoon.
I did kill all the SB stuff and test it.
    No help.

I talked to the guy about removing the SB and using the Onboard sound.

You would think I was asking him to pull his own teeth..

    He decided
    It wasn’t a problem .

You returned it already so this is kind of late but,...

sometimes toggling the hardware acceleration on and off for sound and video within the DVD software settings and the game settings can alleviate this problem. On some games, even finding the right AGP aperture can resolve these issues.
