I just had a similar, albeit less dramatic, experience. I had a flash drive sitting on my kitchen counter and basically forgot about it. I sat a clip for bags of chips and such down next to it without realizing it. The clip is one of those designed for putting on the fridge with a magnet and when I noticed it yesterday, the magnet was right against the flash drive. I figured I would at least lose the files on it, but they are there... These things are really amazingly hardy!!
