Old games

I guess we all have some oooooold games who used to run in p100 with 16MB.

However, can´t find how to make them run under windows XP. Any clue ?

Compatibility thingie. Right-click executable file or shortcut > Properties > Compatibility tab. You can run it in 256 colors, 640 x 480, or choose from a list of previous Windows versions (95 on up). This ends up working well 95% of the time.

Ok, so it's not perfect, but it's a place to start.

I find those "oooooold games" run really fast on my 2+ GHz system with 1GB RAM and 128MB 3D vid card!

I already tried that and it didn´t work. Actually, I tried to tweak all the XP option for DOS programs and nothing made it work.

Which ones are they specifically? I can't say I've ever tried DOS games in XP before. They run fine in 98, tho...

Have you thought about a dual-boot? Or maybe you have some old hardware lying around to use for DOS games?

One of them is Ultima Underworld. Even by choosing compatibility mode windows 95 it doesn~t work. I could run Master of Magic.

The possible options are to increase the memory available to the game and the compatibility thing, but none worked.

Dual boot is very unlikely since I don~t want to have all the mess to reinstall everything (I am supposing that I would need to reinstall XP...) And yes, I have an old hardware but AT WORK.. hehhe.. I want to play home.

Look here and you may find something that might work. If not, search for DOS emulators and you'll get a pile of hits.

Haha, this made me laugh! It makes sense that a DOS emulator would run very well on today's hardware but I would have never thought of emulating a previous M$ OS on another M$ OS.

Do they have some Win98 emulators for WinXP?

I don't even want to embarass my place of work by telling you what we work with! Suffice to say, the main system OS is DOS and they have no plans to upgrade out of it until next decade!
