    Nag

I need some help with this nagging problem. I upgraded my windows 98 to windows XP pro and after doing so and windows open up it gives me a popup saying, COMMAND LINE OPTION SYNTAX ERROR, TYPE COMMAND /? and on the top of the popup it says MICROSOFT MANAGEMENT CONSOLE-VIRSION 1.0.
Just how do I stop this popup each time I boot up and windows open up?
I have no idea where I type this command in windows xp and what command do I type.

    Thanks in advance

Some Googling found http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;q220791 - so do you have Office 2000 installed?

You would run such commands from the Command Prompt (Start>All Programs>
Accessories) but the switch /? following a command is always just informative about how to use the preceding command; it just gives one a list showing how to use the command and what options are available, so I don't see how this would help your problem.

Possibly this is due to having upgraded rather than clean-installed. If running Office you could perhaps try uninstalling and then reinstalling FROM THE CD.

BTW, what do you have inside your Start>All Programs>StartUp Folder?

Yes, I do have office 2000 install and you could be right I did not see the problem until I tried to upgrade office 2000 to office xp pro. When I ran into trouble then I re-installed the office 2000 and that's when I now remember seeing the naggin problem.
Should I uninstll office 2000 and reinstall it?

I would definitely try that but now that you mention Office XP I think that could have been the problem alright - it rings a distant bell regarding problems of going back in time following Office XP installations. Will post back if I can find anything more concrete on that.

When I ran into trouble then I re-installed the office 2000
... but did you first uninstall Office XP??

One other tip is to install different versions of Office into different locations rather than into the same location or as an "upgrade".

Thanks for you help Paul, I just uninstalled office 2000 but I can't get all of it out. I uninstalled using the CD. But when I go back to add and remove programs in control panel I still see it there, it will not go away and the nagging popup is still there also. I am going to get rid of it if it's the last thing I do. I went to the website from the link you sent me. I now know where the problem stems from, but is get rid of it is killing me.

What was the problem with upgrading to OfficeXP? and did the install/upgrade complete?

Are you sure the Control Panel Add/Remove refers to 2000 or is it to XP? I suppose you could try reinstalling both 2000 and XP from the CD and then uninstalling from Add/Remove.

As long as the removal has actually completed OK, then the superfluous entry in Add/Remove should be capable of being removed using TweakUI for XP.

When I was upgrading to xp it did not complete. It had stopped and asking for a file it could not find on the CD and I found that weird, however, I canceled the installation and the blue bar withdrew and it did not install.
The office that is indicated in control panel add remove program, is the office 2000 premium.
I think I got rid of the "nag". I deleted the office 2000 and ran disk cleanup and rebooted the computer and it did not come back. I am afraid to reinstall the office program.
