Thread: Internet connection speed

  1. #1

    Internet connection speed

Finally made the switch from dial-up to 1.5M DSL. WHen I check my connection speed at computers4sure.com, I get about 1.2Mps. However, when I go to DSLReports.com for a speed check, they break it down to up and down. I get about 555K up and 110 down. Obviously two different metrics being presented. Why does the single test show a speed almost twice that of the more involved test and are the speeds I'm getting good for DSL?

Speed can vary, you may wish to change packet size to optimize speed. I used PC Pitstop site and it worked for me, others may agree or disagree. FYI the PC Pitstop site requires IE.

I wish I had 1.5M, I have 384K DSL but Comcast is upgrading the neighborhood with fiber and their Internet service may be available in 4 months here.

Pick another server from DSL reports you may be getting internet delay or their server is very busy. they also have recommendations for setting MTU and such for max speed on dsl. (try tracing a route to their server and look for latency in between hops also)
