    Xp wont install!

    Please help me,

I have got Windows Xp home upgrade edition and i am trying to install it . I have installed it once on this computer but then i took it off and installed linux. That didnt work so now i want to install Xp again.

So i deleted all the partions and made a new one with all the memory on it and formatted it. After this I go through the setup until it reboots. It says it will continue with setup after this, but it never does. It just boots back up to CD again and repeats the whole process. :S

Ive tried reseting the CMOS and also trying different partition sizes. I dont know what to do nothing works and it just wont start up into the setup part. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Might be that it is looking for the old Windows files that are no longer there as you formated the drive. I know I had a similiar problem when trying to install an upgrade version of Windows 98, but think it actually did tell me it couldn't find the files.

One more thing, did you leave a MBR on the drive? If it is just rebooting to the CD drive might be a problem with the MBR, or the boot order in BIOS. I would doubt BIOS would be the problem though. Every time I installed XP it would reboot and ignore the CD and finish doing its installation process.

WinXP probably installs best into an unpartitioned HDD after booting to the installation CD. Let it create the partition(s) you wish to use, (having first simply deleted all the partitions on it) and install into a new one that it creates 'for itself'.

You have had a number of different partitions, including Linux (non-dos) partitions, and I guess WinXP would rather have a more pristine HDD.
