    Ethernet Driver

Hello Folks. I have been off the internet for over a week. My Ethernet card had slipped inside the machine when I tried to connect it to the modem. I think the technician somehow did not fasten it down.

Well, to make a long story short, the cable vompany finally got it straightened out by supplying a new ethernet card and installing the driver. I asked the tech if he can give me a copy of the driver so that I can install it myself in case I somehow lose the software again in future. He said that is a problem -- its the only one he has and he needs to use in the field.

My qquestion, is it possible to purchase a driver for your ethernet card, and how would you go about getting the proper one? Thank you.

You should be able to go to the manufacturers website and get the latest driver. Save to your HDD and then on a floppy or cd. I had to do that to get online when I bought a used laptop.

You should not have to pay for a driver for an ethernet card. It is included in the price of the card.
If you know the exact make/model of the card you should be able to find download sites for the driver.

Thanks much for this info. I will call the cable company to see if they will give me the name of the manufacturer. (I have the feeling they don't want to). I don't know if the name is written on the card, and I don't want to go inside the machine to remove the card to look for the name. Doing this, apparently, could cause me to lose the driver software again, resulting in another week or 2 off the internet, before the cable company could find the time to come and download the driver again!

This is the second ethernet card I have installed within the last 3 months.

The 2 empty packages were left here, each with a bracket. There does not seem to be a company name on them. Each pkg has the following markings: DFE-530TX+
P/N:990038000001 [above this number os the word PET].

Could I do a search on these marks? Rgds,

Pave, thank you so much, you are a life saver! I shall download the driver onto my hard drive as well as a floppy. You know how it is if you are off the net -- you can't search or check with you guys for anything when you are offline. Thanks again.
