Thread: Help - automatic redirect for Yahoo! mail

Angry Help - automatic redirect for Yahoo! mail

Whenever I log in to Yahoo! Mail (mail.yahoo.com), it starts to display the page (you have one unread item etc.) and then automatically redirects me to a search page (with loan ads etc.), the address line reading "About:Blank".

I'm not sure why this is happening. Can anyone help me get rid of the issue?

    Thanks,

    Dan.

You have at least one problem with malware (virus, spyware, hijacker and so on...). Please download and run Spybot and AdAware SE. In Spybot fix items checked in RED... In AdAware fix whatever it indicates is bad... Also, it is a good idea to run an online virus scan, there are links to 2 of them at the bottom of my post. Then you need to run HijackThis and post a log to clean out whatever is left.

To run HJT, extract it to a permanent folder such as one you create like C:\HJT. Close all open windows and browsers and make sure that all programs are enabled if you use msconfig. Run it and Scan, then Save the log. When the log window appears, Right click to Copy it, open your browser and come here to Paste the entire log. Do not make any changes until it is checked since most items are either benign or essential to the computer.

Thanks for this. I'm currently running Norton AV across the hard-drive - is this likely to sort the issue out?

No it isn't, but it might help and it won't hurt. Most likely what you have is an aggressive adware program that resembles a virus and Norton usually doesn't fix it although it may have part of the fix for it in a special tool... We will have to see your log to know for sure...

I've run SpyBot and Norton. The Ad-Aware is some way through a full-system scan, but seems to have hung when in the Adobe folder. I've tried this twice, and it hangs in the same place. It says it's still scanning, but the CPU indicator is not lit.

If I press Cancel, then I lose the 42 critical objects it has found so far.

    Can you help?

    Thanks,

    Dan.

I would leave it for a while and see if it proceeds... If not, shut it down and try it in Safe Mode... If it still doesn't go, move on to the next step and come back to it later....
