Thread: I need help...bad!

    Unhappy I need help...bad!

    I have Windows XP Home.

I have ran my McAfee virus scan, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Doctor. I have performed a disk clean up, restarted the computer, but every ten seconds my McAfee pops up and tells me that "An Application wants to access the internet, do you want to GRANT ACCESS or BLOCK ACCESS?" I click BLOCK and ten seconds later it pops up again, I click GRANT and it "still" pops up ten seconds later with the same question.

    The program is C:/windows/svsqdcj.exe

In addition, my browser homepage was changed to "about blank" Spybot did detect that and I guess I just didn't read what it was asking me. (It won't happen again) but I succesfully changed it back.

McAfee is asking me over and over, even as I write this!

Hijack this gave me instructions, and I followed them. When I got to a part that asked me to execute a program which in the instructions said to download, I could not find it. (It = The Program) However, the fix also said to run two other programs and and restart. I did and I still have spyware.

The other fix asked me to disable SYS Restore, then run spyware removing aplications. I did and nothing worked.

At least thats my interpertation of what I've been told.

I'm out of my head whith this thing!!!!

I am certainly not going to click on that link, the Linux guys can test it for safety before I will risk it, please do not post questionable links on the forums if someone else could be infected.
I would suggest an online virus scan at Housecalls, then do 30-day trial of Trojan Hunter.

You need to download a copy of HijackThis and post the contents of the LOG back here for review.

HJT doesn't give instructions, so I really don't know what you are referring to... Keep in mind that you are the sole source of information that we may use to help you... If you don't give us the actual messages, the actual programs involved and other details we are blinded and not likely to be very successful in helping you...

Also, when you post the HJT log, please be sure to download the latest version 1.99.1....

I didn't think of it as posting questionable links, I thought of it as a heads up on a bad site. Anyway, Housecalls and Trojun Hunter. Thanks.

Ok, I guess I did leave out the fact that I went to Pc Pitstop Forum and Tankweb.net Forum. Tankweb is where I submitted my Hijack This Log and someone Instructed me on a fix.

I apologize for leaving that out, chock it up to me being a newbie to all of this and the fact that this is happening to my new computer. I am a little frustrated.

It wasn't my intention to offend anyone.

This is not about being offended, it is about being able to help you effectively... If someone is already helping you on another forum, it would be best to ignore this and focus on that... If you follow this, please let them know on the other forum so that a volunteer doesn't waste time trying to help someone who is already receiving help elsewhere....

You are going to need to disable TeaTimer to get the fixes done or it will restore some of them... Follow these instructions to do that:

    http://russelltexas.com/malware/teatimer.htm

You have NewDotNet installed and that is probably part of the problem... There is some possibility that you did this on purpose -- if that is the case I suggest you get rid of it... If you didn't do it on purpose, try uninstalling it in Add/Remover Programs... If that doesn't work, go here and follow the instructions to remove it...

    http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html

Then please open a HJT scan and put a check by these items:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4A2AACF3-ADF6-11D5-98A9-00E018981B9E} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Admilli Service] C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliServ.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [DeskAd Service] C:\Program Files\DeskAd Service\DeskAdServ.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [u7ExE2] C:\WINDOWS\svsqdcj.exe
    O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://bar.mywebsearch.com/menusear...?p=ZBzeb032YYUS

These allow almost complete access to your system and I would not allow that on my system at all... I suggest that you fix them too:

    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com
    O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com (HKLM)

Then please close all open windows except HJT and click Fix Checked...

See if either of these are in Add/Remove Programs and uninstall them if they are....

    Admilli Service
    DeskAd Service

Find and delete these if they are still there... Folders are in bold:

    C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliServ.exe
    C:\Program Files\DeskAd Service\DeskAdServ.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\svsqdcj.exe

Then reboot and post a fresh log along with a report on how things went with the fixes and how things are going... If you have not already done so, turn System Restore back on so that you have an option if things go really wrong...

One other point... Spyware Doctor is not a very good antispyware program, you are probably better off with the MS AntiSpyware, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot...

It seems to have worked, I am not getting the "ever present" McAfee question.

I removed "C:\WINDOWS\svsqdcj.exe" but I did not have these files in Add/Remove Programs though:

I just noticed this line in my Hijack This file.

    O9 - Extra button: MUSICMATCH MX Web Player - {d81ca86b-ef63-42af-bee3-4502d9a03c2d} - http://wwws.musicmatch.com/mmz/openWebRadio.html (file missing)

Should I delete this as well?

Did you delete the folders for these??

    C:\Program Files\Admilli Service\AdmilliServ.exe
    C:\Program Files\DeskAd Service\DeskAdServ.exe

Your log looks clean except for this:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm

Was TeaTimer turned off when you did the fixes... If not, please turn it off and try to fix that item again...

You do not need to fix the O9 you asked about, but you can if you want... The reason I suggested fixing the O15s is because they give extreme access to your system, not because MusicMatch is bad...

Are you having any problems at this point?? You may need to clean up those folders and that O2, but otherwise it looks like you are cleaned up...

I looked for these but did not find them.

    I fixed:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm

So far I have not had any problems at all since. Thank you very much for your patience and your help. You truly know what your doing, and I appreciate it.

Try setting WinXP to show all hidden and system files, then look for those folders again... If you still can't find them, open HJT and go to Config... Open Misc Tools and select "Delete on reboot"... Copy/paste the full line for each of those into the window that opens (one at a time) and click through to a reboot... It would probably be a good idea to post a log one more time (hopefully), so post one after the reboot...

Your log seems to be clean... You can fix this with HJT if you wish, this is from Spybot, so you may need to reset SDHelper...

Since you don't note any continuing problems, here is my prevention speech to prevent future infection:

This is a good time to set up protection against further
attacks. Read the article linked below about "How did I
get infected". You need an antivirus that is updated, a
good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a
spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads.
All of these have good free versions available... be very
cautious about any security software that advertises in
popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually
useless, but also often have malware in them....

    Budfred ..... Caveat Emptor....

Helpful links SpywareBlaster... HijackThis... ATF Cleaner...

Post a complaint about malware here!!
So how did I get infected in the first place??

MS MVP 2006 and ASAP member since 2004...

If you PM me for help, expect an irritated response... Post in the forum...
