It's late and I'm tired, but I don't see Smitfraud in your log. A whole bunch of other drech, but not that.

Go to add/remove programs and tell us if the following programs are listed:

    Security IGuard
    Virtual Maid
    Search Maid
    PSGuard
No two moments are alike and a person who thinks that any two moments are alike has never lived.

Do not have any of the listed programs but did at one point have the usual smitfraud message on desktop (before went black). Is it possible on of the anti-virus or anti-spy programs I ran removed smitfraud?

Also the screen is black (but I have icons) and when I look at display properties only two tabs remain "Screen Saver" & "Settings"

Any ideas how I can get the other functionality back?

    Appreciate your comments

Yes, I agree Classicsoftware: this log is not the prettiest I've ever seen...

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Those O17 domains are in the CWS database. Also the R1.
    http://users.skynet.be/bk136527/CWS/CWSdomains.htm

    You have a CoolWebSearch infection.

    Download and run CWShredder
    from its own folder.

Click Fix and then Next; let it fix everything it asks about.

Also you have a WareOut infection.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
    http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = about:blank
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,Default_Search_URL = http://www.searchv.com/search.html
