Thread: "Device Manager" problem

  1. #1

    Question "Device Manager" problem

OS: Windows XP PRO 2002 SP2

Hi guys. When I try to run "Device Manger" (ver 1.0), I can't see any devices/hardware installed. Windows boots without any problem and my devices (video card, mouse, etc.) are working. But when I run windows in SAFE mode, device manager are running fine and devices are displayed.

Is this a sign of a virus? Has anybody encountered this before?

    Kindly advise.

START -> Right Click "My Computer" -> Click "Properties" -> Changed to "Hardware" tab -> Click "Device Manager" button

Tried running device manager using "Computer Management" as well, but got the same results - no devices displayed

Let's rule out malware. Run a hijackthis log and post the results here. If you don't know how, please post back for instructions.

The only thing I would fix is
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
Place a check next to it and click fix checked.
Can you log in as Administrator? adn what does it show.

Fixed R3 - Default URLSearchHook. Problem not yet resolved.

Yes, I'm using a ADMIN type user.

I have tried removing a device (modem) in SAFE mode and when windows boot in NORMAL mode, it did not detect my modem. Then back to SAFE mode, device was detected and installed.

The problem may be with your user account. Every Windows XP system has a user called Administrator.
