"Kenwood 72X" or any other name brand CD-ROM Drive ?

I've to buy a new CD-ROM drive and like to find out what people think about Kenwood 72X ? Is it worth to spend the money or I should go buy any other brand, like Toshiba 48X or Creative 52X or ASUS 50X and spend 50% less money ?

For storage recommendations, the best place is the forums at http://www.storagereview.com. The Kenwood uses multibeam technology and has a pretty good reputation, actually.

i benchmarked my 72X kenwood and my 48 X sony, and found quite a large 'cpu consumption' rate increase with the kenwood, i am more than happy with my sony, so saving the extra $$$ you would most probably have more for your money with a sony

From what I have heard CD roms above 32x dont make to much differnce. Dont know what the deal was maybe most standard CDs can only be read at around 32x any one here know?

I went from a Acer 32x to a Asus 50x only reason it needed replacement and really dont notice much dif at all. So at this time I wouldnt worrie about spending the extra money on the 72x and 80x roms and just got for the 50x Line for alot less.

Most software developed is designed to run on 4x cd rom drives. It is simply a case of developers wanting to reach as much audience as possible, even newer games that ask for a slick gaming box only require a 4x read speed. Until software up the ante and requires faster transfer rates don't bother with the 72X drive. If you want to spend the money get a DVD drive instead. Should mention that anything below 24x does make installation a bit tiresome.
