Would any specialist help me ?

Dear Specialists,

The follows are questions I got to ask you:


Part I

Mr. A owns a small company which running a business of designing buildings. He bought a second hand computer and its specification is shown as below:

(a) Pentium 100 MHz processor
(b) 4 Mbyte RAM
(c) 256 Kbytes Cache
(d) 800 Mbyte 14 ms IDE hard drive
(e) 2 by 2 Mbytes SIMMs
(f) 3.5" 1.44 Mbyte floppy disk drive
(g) CD-ROM, sound card and speakers
(h) Video card with 512 Kbyte VRAM
(i) Desktop case with small footprint
(j) 14" VGA Monitor with a maximum resolution of 640 by 480

Other accessories:

- Keyboard and Mouse
- Two parallel and series ports
- Games port
- Two expansion slots
- MS DOS version 6.22

* ** Please briefly explain what these items (a) to (j) are used for.

( You are required to explain the components (a) to (j). You need to show that you knows what the components are but it is not necessary to state how they work. )


Part 2

In fact, Mr. A wants to use the computer for producing general letters, for accounts and pricing his work as well as for producing drawings and plans. Mr. A is seeking
your advice on whether his second hand computer would be suitable for his business.

You are asked to give advice to Mr. A and you consider that the computer is not suitable for his business, explain what changes you would recommend and why you consider the changes are necessary to make it suitable for the proposed tasks. You also name 4 software packages that you would recommend for Mr. A and say that applications they would be used for. Please suggest 2 types of hard copy output devices which would be most suitable for Mr. A 's business and state what would be produced on each.

( Please suggest 4 to 6 areas for configuration change, name 4 software packages with its usage, and recommend 2 types of hard copy output devices. )

Part 3

Eventually, Mr. A thought that his second hand computer is not suitable for his business and sold the whole set of computer to Ms. B She mainly wishes to use it for simple calculations and budget work ,and she also ask you to advise her on what type of package she should purchase and explain to her how the package works

You then list 8 facilities and functions available in a spreadsheet and provide some examples by creating sketch of a spreadsheet showing the entry of data and functions. You also explain the use of parallel and serial ports; and give one example of items of equipment which might be plugged into each. You highlights the advantages and disadvantages of both types of port and explain what a games port is and how it would be used?

He's kidding! This sound like a test to me! I'd throw the thing out and start from scratch! I would of saved my money and bought another 64MD ram for the other machine.

I am not kidding you. I am currently studying computing course.
And this is a case study issed which is quiet tough to me as a
starter.

Won't you help me ? Or don't you have an idea ?

that some teacher saddled you with that beast!

Well, yes, it's been posted in at least 2 other places, I already deleted one of them and locked the other I believe.

Jack, sorry to seem callous, but these folks aren't here to study for you. If this is related to a test or class project and you're having difficulties, I would say grab those books and study some more. We'll be glad to help solve your computer problems, but we can't be expected to do the work toward class projects that you committed yourself to do when you enrolled in the class.

I always kept myself two years ahead when I was in school, and was always glad to help others study, but refused to do their work for them or let them see my test answers. I even took the risk of being physically beaten by three large bullies by refusing to let the ring leader copy my answers. Had to get off the bus the next day with a baseball bat, but he got the message and did his own work...After I chased him around the school with the bat and the school principal got into the act...

Same here, we can't do your studying for you, if we hand you the answers on a platter you don't learn anything from the class. You have to do that yourself.
