I actually got that message from an HP comp my parents bought for my brother. They bought it from best buy!
I forget how, but I disabled it.
I have been receiving frequent pop-ups on my desktop which inform me that my copy of windows is not genuine. In order to fix this problem as requested, it costs money. Any ideas on how to fix this problem for free??![]()

Call Microsoft and tell them about you purchased a PC with Windows and the product key that came with it wasn't valid.

No...there isn't.
If your computer does have a legit (ie: it was purchased, preinstalled, from a major manufacturer and/or major retail chain) then you have nothing to worry about...and it shouldn't cost anything.
If, in fact, your copy of Windows is 'grey', then no, we can't tell you how to do anything than it is time to shell out the clams and go legit.

There was a glitch with Windows validating software that made it give false reports in invalid copies of Windows... I believe that has been fixed with an update... If this is a valid copy of Windows, make sure it is fully updated and see if that fixes the problem... You may need to call MicroSoft to get that done however...
