hi guys, hope someone can shed some light on a very odd problem of mine.

firstly, im still on dialup, sorry about that. the odd thing is everytime i open a media file (avi, ogm, mkv etc), my connection starts to idle and subsequently hangs. usually after 30secs or so it goes active again(with media continuing to play), but every now and then, it just drops completely and i have to reconnect.
im on XP sp1, use MPC and the latest version of the CCCP to play files. it doesnt matter which media player i use though, all have the same error.
also i dont recall this happening with previous modems, current one im using is a usb modem, 56k smartlink with updated drivers.
