Thread: PVR Question?

    PVR Question?

Hi, I just bought one of the ATI TV wonder cards to record tv shows. But the quality is not that great. Now dont laugh the computer that it is in runs a PCI ATI 9250 card. I know its horrible. But my question is that would a better graphics card produce a better picture. I know it would help with slowdowns and stuff like that but I am just wondering about the picture quality itself. THX.

The picture quality is poor because the input signal to your video card from either your cable or satellite is in standard definition(440i), even if you subscribe for HD broadcasts. You may be able to improve the quality slightly by using an S-Video cable if you're currently using a coaxial cable(Obviously, both the video card and the cable/satellite box will require S-Video ports).
However, if your video card has an ATSC compatible digital tv tuner, then you may be able to feed free over-the-air HD signals to it from an outdoor antenna, and watch/record channels like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and/or PBS.
