    Bios Update

    Hi Guys n Girls

    I have recently added some extra memory into my PC and don't seem to have noticed any performance change. I was expecting things to load/open a little faster i.e. word seems to take ages to open amongst others. I had 512mb of PC2100 DDR ram I have put 1Gb of PC3200 DDR ram in but as I say little if any difference.

    Talks with some people suggest that I may need to update my bios???
    I have never done this before, but I am not affraid, but I am also wise to check first before I get out of my depth.

    I have used this Bios agent to work out what Bios I have;

    Program: eSupport.com BIOS Agent Version 3.61

    I recommend sticking with the present BIOS version unless there is a definite "issue" the update fixes because BIOS upgrades always involve the risk of disabling the motherboard if anything goes wrong.

    Cleaning the PCs HDD and trimming the stuff Windows is trying to run is more effective than a simple BIOS upgrade in most cases.
    It is usually software that results in the slowdown, the hardware is the same as before.

    Thanks

    I think I will take your advice. The more I look into it the more of a can of worms it seems!!

    Do you have any advice on how to trim up windows to help me speed things up?

    Thanks

    I use free CCleaner for regular cleaning. It cleans older temporary files used during installs, cleans temporary internet files and much more.
    I don't recommend you let the Yahoo toolbar load on install however.
