Have you booted a LiveCD on the system before?
I'd try MEPIS, PCLinuxOS, SIDUX and Sabayon and install the one that works.
Hi all
I have installed Fedora Core 6 on my Gateway MX3414 laptop.
First of all I've been having trouble with sound. My laptop uses some intel card - I can't figure out much about it, in windows it says "SigmaTel High definition Audio Codec" but that's about it. Apparently FC6 recognizes my card. It comes up something like STAC92xx and I can "play" sounds - that is, I can play an audio file or cd and the bar will move across as if it is playing, but no sound will come out. It is the same for the Test sound. It's acting exactly as it would as if I were playing music with the system sound muted, only it's not muted - and I've turned it all the way up. I assume this is a problem with ALSA?
Which brings me to my second question - I've downloaded an ALSA rpm. For some reason, every time I try to install it, it gets so far as "Retrieving software information" and then it hangs and never goes anywhere; the software install program basically stops responding. The same thing seems to happen now when I open "Add/Remove Software" from the menu. What should I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance!
