    Post Microsoft Favorites Alphabetizing

In Microsoft's latest browser, how can the sites in Favorites
be alphabetized, that is arranged in alphabetical order. In the older versions it was easy, but thus far I haven't been able to arrange them and "Help" is just about useless.

I really can't help out on this, because I haven't quite figured it out yet, but every once in a while I look over at the favorites and guess what they are in alphabetical order, so I add some more, on the bottom of the list of course, then a little while later presto, back in order.

I don't know if it has something to do with the fact I'm using McAfee's version of defrag and have it set to sort all the directories and files in alphabetical order or what...

If you're using IE4.0 or higher, all you have to do is right click on one of the shortcuts in your favorites folder and select sort by name, it will place all your links in alphabetical order.

    Luck.

    Question

    iisbob,
First, dude, let someone else give advice. You are the master geek animal! You're all over this forum! How do you know all this stuff? When I grow up, I want to be just like you. (actually I'm probably twice your age) Seriously, you have lots of great answers on this thing. Thanks for giving so much of your time to so many people. You're very helpful.
Ok, enough of the platitudes.....alright, I just downloaded IE 5.5. MJC is right, it's not there. I can't find anything that lets me alphabetize my favorites list. Are you sure it's not in your internet options or somewhere else?
You've got stuff in Microsoft downloads that the rest of us mere mortals have not.

iisbob, you may have the very first release of 5.5...it was up for about a week then for some reason it disappeared and then it was backup, the version I downloaded was after it was put back up and the option to alphabetize was gone...

Look, i'm telling you guys it's there, they incorperated it in 4.0 and later, simply go into your favorites, right click on a link and at the bottom of the menu you'll find " sort by name " , if your links still do not sort by alphabet then simply rename them.

and nim; unless you were born in 1958 you couldn't be but knee hi to ant when i graduated high school.

I humbly point you gentlemen to this site, which will hopefully make this seemingly impossible task clearer.

OK. I will be the first to admit that I know next to Nothing about IE
BUT I did try to sort the wives Favorites from inside IE.
The Only thing I got it to do was CRASH.

Now I will tell you how I was able to get them sorted.
Click Start , Click Favorites , Then Right Click on any item in the favorites folder.
    Select Sort by name.
When you open favorites in IE it should be sorted.
    *note this was using Win98se + IE5.0*

OK, i know i'm not making this up guys! Go here i've posted a pic of my fav's and the actions i take in the windows dialog menu to alphabetize them; i do this frequently becuase i wind up getting loads of bookmarks and if i couldn't organize them i'd never be able to find my way around the net! besides, what good are bookmarks if they aint organized!?

enter " PCthings " in the search field, that'll take you to my " sticky notes "

uh, i know you guys are jump all over for me again for this; but.. noooo Bass if you notice my pic on the " sticky note " i'm in IE at the time( actually on was on the pcguide forum site ). All i can think of is that you guys have a corrupted version of IE, as we would gently suggest to someone who would post here with this problem- goto add/remove panel and do the IE repair routine.

    Belay last

In IE I was clicking Favorites on the toolbar instead of the above the bar Favorites...I couldn't figure out why my list wouldn't drop down like yours and instead opened up in a pane on the left...but using the top line Text Favorites produces the drop down menu...and lo and behold there you can do it.

MJC you still doing the full screen (F11)? Use the Fav link on the right...not the button.

Actually iisbob, I know that I used to be able to do it that way, but with the last update (several months ago) now it is a chore. , but bassvaxs trick does work (thanks bass), and I have had the random alphabetzing occur since day one....there are some things about IE I don't think we'll ever figure out....I just assumed that the removal of the sort by was just a MS "improvement"

Oh joy! It works, it works. My day is done! I'm going to reward myself with a Starbucks. Oops still got a luke warm one here. Can anyone say, caffeine? I'm telling you I tried every favorites button on the screen and I never saw that "sort by name" thing until this morning and it never occurred to me to try to go through the start menu. Thanks all. BTW who started this thread and did he/she give up a long time ago?

iisbob, dude, class of 76? No way. Dulaney (Baltimore, MD class of '76) Found out that Sea is too. class of '76 Anne Arundel, MD. What a glorious day, found out how to alphabetise my favorites list and discovered another sorry bugger who went to school at the height of poor public education here in the land of the free. (sorry, just a little politics there)

A lady does not reveal her age, but I can say you guys are spring chickens.

I want to be like TJay. He said once that his Favorites folder would "choke a horse". I am getting a Troubleshooting folder within the Favorites folder that will soon equal choking ability.
