Thread: Lets put together the fastest computer!

  1. Lets put together the fastest computer!

With the most amount of money! I am building a Photoshop computer and keep upgrading as I go along, finding new ways to increase speed. Here are some . . .

Overclock processor using a good overclocking board and fan.

Raid the HD, either Raid 1 or Raid 0. supposedly Raid 0 is faster but Raid 1 is just as fast as a single drive but is fail safe as well.

Raid a single Photoshop scratch volume OR set 3-4 different drives for each level.

Raid 10 for internal data volume. Raid 10 is the fastest read/write for random and sequential data but is not talked about or used as much as other Raid because it is so costly.

    Equipment so far.

    Gigabyte P35-DS3P
    Areca 1220 8-SATA II 8x
    Tuniq tower
    Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz
    OCZ 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
    XP Pro SP2
    ICY DOCK MB455SPF-B (3)
    COOLER MASTER Stacker 810 RC-810-SKN1
    XFX PVT73GUGD3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 (overkill)
    16 - Seagate 500GB
    3 - WD 150 10K Raptor

    Any others?

    thanks, roger

I would start by scraping that game card and go with a high end
    Pro card
    Or a Matrox Parhelia APVe
PCI Express x16 graphics card with video input and HDTV output support

How about a Matrox Parhelia DL256

You don't need all the 3D bells and whistles for Photoshop

    While were are at it,
Scrape that single cpu board and go to a dualy with 2 core2quad's it should scream

    2X Intel Xeon X5355 Clovertown 2.66GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache
