    Samsung YP-K3JAB/XEU 4GB MP3 Player

My daughter wants to be able to use her Samsung YP-K3JAB/XEU 4GB MP3 Player [not 1GB] with my Win2000Pro Operating System.

The manual says that "WinXP SP2 or Higher" is part of the minimum needed specification.
As you will see at the Samsung website, no driver is supplied [I guess since it is included on the WinXP installation disk].
At present, it is shown as an "Other Device" in Device Manager [Driver not installed = code 28].

And yet this webpage says it can be made to work with Win2000, by installing the linked driver file and customising the inf file.
    I have downloaded that driver.
Could someone keep me right on making the customisations to the inf file?

My daughter says that the player reports the battery charge is low, even after it has been connected to my PC's USB port for hours.
Hence she believes it isn't being charged, even though the player reports it is charging immediately after being connected.

Will it only charge if a suitable driver is installed for the player?

As far as one can tell you run the exe and rename the inf file created in the WINNT/inf/ folder to a name of your choosing. Then edit the line

    Code:
    %Test.DeviceDesc% = Test_MTP, USB\VID_xxxx&PID_yyyy
    specifically to

    Code:
    %Test.DeviceDesc% = Test_MTP, USB\VID_04E8&PID_5081
for the MP3 player in question.

Then point the driver installation to your renamed inf file.

Did just that about 7 hours back, and it was SUCCESSFUL!
    Many thanks anyway.

The trick was trying to explain it all to ErnieK on the phone.
Amazing how trying to explain something to someone else can help make it become clear in the mind of the explainer.

The MP3 player is now working well.

    Cord

This is to anyone who has the MP3 player and knows anything about it:
I lost my cord and I want to buy a new one but I don't know what kind of cord it is. I know what it looks like and I know half of it is a USB cable but I don't know what the other half of it is called. I want to know because when I am buying it I don't want to just buy a random cord and get home only to find out it was just the wrong one. Is there a name for the cord so I know which one I can get?

    Welcome to the forum!

Perhaps a picture of the connector in question would allow us to help? Also, for future reference, we normally create new threads for new issues unless it is directly related. In this case you have found a thread from 2008 :P
