Thread: Weird windows error!

  1. #1

    Weird windows error!

Just been getting this unusual error for the past couple of days.I tried to read about it online but most of the answers have been really confusing. So hopefully someone here knows whats happening!

    Source : Event System
    Category : 50
    Event : 4609

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070005 from line 44 of d:\comxp_sp2\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsyste mobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

No idea what has caused this.Even weird is the fact that I was away for the weekend and pc was off.But since I have restarted it,this error has surfaced!

    1. COM+-related events may be logged in Event Viewer when you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 and join the computer to a domain.
    RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, add the service account to the "Impersonate a client after authentication" domain policy. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type secpol.msc, and then click OK.
    2. In the left pane, expand Local Policies, and then click User Rights Assignment.
    3. In the right pane, double-click Impersonate a client after authentication.
    4. Click Add User or Group.
    5. Type service in the Enter the object names to select box, and then click OK two times.
    6. Restart the computer.

    2. The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was <error code> from line 44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cp p.

The brief hunt I did seems to tie this particular error to malware...not so much that any files in the error message are infected (they could be, though), but rather a symptom of the infection, in general.

Well, the Service account was already present in the both the Create Global & Impersonate Client policies and still the problem occured. And I tried removing & adding them again.Still get the same errors..

Will something like System Restore help solve the problem. Its kinda urgent as I require the pc for longer hours owing to assignments.Any further help possible please?

Yes, it looks like you are probably infected...

Is there any difference if you boot into Safe Mode?
