Post Use of Dual Video cards

I currently have a TNT2 PCI card and am considering the purchase of a V5500 AGP card. I intend to run with both cards installed as this will give me the capability of running Glide as well as Direct3d, and hopefully give me greater versatility in running the many different programs I have. My question is how does this work (with two cards installed simulataneously)? How do you choose which card to use for a particular application? Do you have to change which card the monitor is plugged into to use that card or can you select a card on the fly? And finally how do you select between the various interfaces available? (glide, direct3d, opengl etc.)

As you can see, I'm just getting started in this, and am having difficulty finding info in this area. Any help or links to good reference sites would be appreciated.

    Thanx in advance.
