Try rolling back to the Acer provided driver package. Many times laptop drivers are slightly modified (usually for power saving purposes) from the stock package.
This may well get moved to Video card section....so if mods want to move it, fine...
Mrs PW's Laptop is driving me (and her) nuts.
It's a few years old :
Acer Aspire 5610(3)
1.86 ghz Intel CPU
HDD 160gb
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300
Vista OS
We were getting this damn message, 'The NVIDIA drivers have failed'. I updated the drivers from the NVIDIA site and for a while it was fine.
Now the laptop just shuts down of it's own accord. No reason, no warning, just shuts down. Repeated boots just result in same. It will be fine, say, all day, and then just....shut down.
However, when it does this, it will let us boot into Vista in Safe mode.
Driving us crazy.
Anybody got any initial thoughts please ?

Thanks MJC I'll give that a try.
The other think was that this seems to happen when the machine gets hot (Mrs PW plays this Farm game for hours) wonder if it's shut down temp ? Can't find anything like that in BIOS though.
