Compaq presario win vista home premium

Have this laptop running windows vista premium and I installed a program called illumina (BIBLE), after installation and trying to run the program, it said DAO36.exe program data base was not intalled and to put disk #3 in and click ok. So I did that and it showed it was installed and the program did open and I could use it. However, after closing the program and re-opening it to run it again, it did the same thing and asked for the DAO file and I installed again. But each time I want to use the program I have to go through the same procedure and I don't know why. I looked into windows>system32 and I saw the dao36 logged the amount of times I installed it.
Why is computer doing this. Now, I have other laptop (HP) running windows xp and with the same program installed and did not encounter this problem. When I checked windows>system32 in the HP laptop the dao36 file does not exist and the program runs fine. Can someone help me figure this out.?
    Thanks in advance.

    Check HERE for compatibility.

Also you may want to try installing and/or running using the COMPATIBILITY MODE in vista.

    Is this a 64bit version?

Thanks a lot sassie05, I think I will try what you recomend tomorrow, and no, I don't think it is a 64 bit program.

Hi sassie05, I am just getting around to fooling with this thing. Let me get this straight. To run the compatibility feature, you click on start then click on control panel then click on programs and features? On the microsoft site it said click on programs after clicking on control panel. I don't see programs by itself just the programs and features. Where am I going wrong?
    Thanks

Hi sassie05, I am not on that particular computer right now, but I did click on the programs features and what I saw there was the options of uninstall or change a program, what I did not see was the "use an older program with this version of windows". The compaq computer with vista windows is not my computer, just trying to help someone. I never did like vista that is why I keep my xp pro.
Thanks very much for helping out sassie.

Change your view to category view in the Control Panel window. Do that by clicking on Control Panel Home in the navigation pane of the Control Panel window. Then click on Programs.

It's possible that Vista is just not compatible with the program (or the database comonent) and I also note that the individual Microsoft Data Access Components download does not include Vista.

Do you by any chance have any version of MSAccess installed on either PC.

First of all Paul the laptop with the vista does not belong to me, and yes, I have MSAccess on my laptop. The compaq laptop does not have the msaccess installed.

If possible I would try installing MSAccess (with all associated data components) onto the Compaq. That could be the reason that the program is not finding all the database library components. Just a hunch and you should get 30 days or something similar of a trial without buying a new licence with MS Office Suites later than 2000.

Well, I tried both suggestions and it still did not work the way it is supposed to work. I still get the window saying "The DAO database engine is not installed on your computer. Click OK to run the DAO installer" to which I did several times and it keep asking for it. But what I have noticed, that by clicking on the "X" many times to shut the window, the program actually starts.

From what I have seen on the web so far this area with DAO36 seems to keep cropping up with Vista even though apparently the runtime is included in the Vista OS. I can only think it is a Vista "bug" or possibly the program or DAO needs to be run with Admin credentials. You could try turning off UAC to see if that made any difference - though I doubt it.

You can always right click on an exe in Vista and choose run as Admin.

Paul, forgive my ignorance but what is UAC? I will try to see if I can run the DAO36 with admin credentials in the morning, see what happens. This program gave me no problems in my laptop running XP. I hope windows 7 is nothing like vista because I planned to get it.
