    Verifying DMI Pool Data...

Hello, I hope someone can help me here.

I came home from work today and, for some reason, my computer was off. After turning it on the computer came to a screen where it said...

    Verifying DMI Pool Data ..............

After a while, it says "Boot from CD : " and then automatically tries to boot...

    "NVIDIA Boot Agent 249.0542
    Copyright (C) 2001-2005 NVIDIA Corporation
    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

    CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 04 4B 03 D6 8F GUID: 77D9600D-034B-0400-0000-000000000000
    DHCP.........."

And it just runs on that for a bit before it says...

    "PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent."

Then tries to boot again... to no avail.

I haven't put any new hardware on my computer in forever but I still checked that all the wires were properly plugged in within my computer and made sure no disk was in either of my drives... still the same message.

Can anyone help me to fix this problem? Their was nothing leading up to this, just came home and the computer was off... now this.

    Thanks
    Ray

PS - My computer was custom made and I have windows xp. Also, when I first turn on the computer, and try and press F8, or F2, or F anything, nothing happens when I push it... it just keeps going to the Verifying DMI Pool Data screen and starts up same as if I didn't press F8 or F2...

Welcome to the PC Guide forums

    That is a serious problem.

I believe this is a problem where the master boot record is corrupted.

    Or the HDD is dead.

    Or the motherboard is defective.

Wait for Paul Komski or others to advise.

Do you have the Windows XP disk in case a repair install is required?

    "PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent."

Looks like it is trying to boot from NV boot agent
Can you get into the Bios?? If so see what is set for first boot or if your HDD is even recognised!! If the Hdd is recognised then set it for first boot.

Yes, check that the HDD is recognized in the BIOS.

I would also recommend replacing the CMOS battery (on the motherboard) with a new CR2032 button cell battery. I've seen really much stranger things than this happen as a result of a dead battery.

I got into Bios and it doesn't have HDD as a boot option. (But I did reset it to standard settings when I was in there and still nothing) I think the only boot options were CD Drive, Network and hard drive (but not 100%)

I got a message after doing BIOS that Floppy Failed (40)

That's because you reset to defaults and you either have no floppy or the one you have is worn out.

    HDD = Hard Disk Drive.

and try and press F8, or F2, or F anything,
This, to me, sounds as if the computer may not even be accomplishing a successful P.O.S.T. (Power On Self Test with preferred beep code) which precedes the ability to enter Setup/BIOS.

This appears to me to be a case for Get-Data-Back or similar. That is, if, and a big IF the drive can be recognized in another system, or OS such as Linux Ubuntu for example.

But then there's always the possibility that, "She's dead Jim"...
