Can I disable the touchpad on an Acer Aspire laptop?

My wife hates the touchpad on her Acer Aspire 5610Z laptop running Windows 7. Her palms brush the touchpad with predictable results. She uses a USB mouse and has a folded envelope taped over the touchpad to prevent her palms from contacting it. I looked in the Device Manager for a way to disable the touchpad entirely, but didn't see anything. Any ideas?
