What matters is what case the B is...if you were getting 85 kB then your new rate in kB would be about twice that or around 165 kB.
I have Time Warner as my servicer provider for my internet connection. They have just upgraded my service. Before the upgrade, if I download a file it would come down at about 85 to 95 K/second. I don't remember if the "k" was lower or upper case--or if it makes any difference. Now when I download a file it comes down at 1.3 MB/second. My question is: Is 1.3 MB/second just a little faster than what I had or is it significantly faster? Thanks

I just checked with Time Warner to see exactly where I am at compared to where I was. I went from 768 Kbps to 10.0 Mbps. So I guess it's a pretty good increase.

So you should now be able to stream High Definition Video [from the web] to your TV.![]()

I'm now doing that with my Sony "smart" TV.
The TV is connecting to the router [by cable or wirelessly] via a couple of "Devolo dLAN 200 AV Wireless N" units.

Frank,
Just as an addendum to what mjc wrote: basically the difference is between Bytes and bits.
Most ISPs will quote their speeds in kilo- or megabits per second (Kbps and Mbps respectively). However, just to confuse the issue, a PC generally shows the download speed at either kilobytes or megabytes per second (KBps and MBps respectively).
Since there are eight bits in a byte, you could get an idea of the rate at which your PC is downloading in bits by multiplying your 1.3MBps download by eight. This works out at 10.4Mbps, which is around what your ISP told you. It's definitely a good increase over your previous speed![]()

That is a significant increase. You went from their "lite" service to the standard service. As you have already noticed everything on the internet should now move much much quicker.

Thanks for the information. The bits and bytes alway did have me a little confused. And, yes I do notice a big difference. When ever I download a file I always look to see how fast it's coming down. So last night, even thought I didn't need anything to download, I purposely downloaded a few just to see how fast they were coming down. Before I could check to see what the speed was, they were already completely down.
