Dell XPS not working like it should?

Ok my friend got an XPS comp for christmas and its not been running like it should. We play as a group on alot of games like borderlands and payday the heist. And seeing as he has an i7 and a nice integrated card he should be running these things no problem. Yet they lag alot and he has to play on all low sometimes. I built my comp not to long ago and it was a cheap 300 dollar build and im running some of these games better than him. and he needs help seeing as his parents wont get it checked out because they say he is being selfish and spoiled. So if you know anything that will help or have had this happen before please help.
